    Kaum zu glauben: Am 7. August feiert die brasilianische Singer/Songwriter-Legende Caetano Veloso ihren 70. Geburtstag. Als die Samba- und Bossa-Nova-Welle in den späten Sechziger Jahren in Brasilien an Schwung verlor, kamen die Vertreter der sogenannten Tropicalismo-Musik und sorgten mit Folk-, Rock- und Psychedelic-Klängen für frischen musikalischen Wind. Caetano Veloso stellte sich schnell als größtes Talent dieser Musik heraus.Heute ist der musikalisch noch immer produktive Veloso weltweit längst eine Legende. Die New York York Times nannte ihn "one of the greatest songwriters of the century", immer wieder wurden Velosos Songs mit denen von Größen wie John Lennon, Bob Dylan und Bob Marley verglichen.Zu Velosos 70. Geburtstag hat sich jetzt eine abenteuerlustige Gruppe aus internationalen und brasilianischen Musikern zusammengetan um dessen Songs zu interpretieren, u.a. No hiatus announcement, no press release, nothing. For the following three years the band, led by enigmatic frontman Jacob Scott alongside Graham Poole (Lead Guitar), Matthew Bishop (Bass) & Andrew Richardson (Drums), emitted no signal, instead embarking upon a period of prolonged isolation, rejecting the industry and the outside world to hole themselves away inside a medieval abbey in most remote Isle of Wight. To capture their expansive sound and enhance it further the band enlisted the help of producer Chris Potter (The Verve, Urban Hymns) & Paul Butler (Michael Kiwanuka, Devendra Banhart & The Bees), with whom the band had begun their journey 5 years previously. Scott is influenced by Neil Young, Elliott Smith and Half Japanese but it s not been music that s shaped who he is as an artist. His mother, a painter, was a much bigger influence. I learned more from growing up with her than I have from music. She found a way to channel her life experiences into something beautiful and real. With an average age of 19, these two young musicians have insight and ability beyond their years. Hailing from the rustic hillsides of Southern New Hampshire, Tim Beeler's (vocals/acoustic guitar) catchy acoustic tunes draw on his folk roots while his cryptic and inventive lyricism--as well as his curious third nipple--put the "freak" in "freak-folk." Tim was raised by wolves, giving him his characteristic "wolf-like" lisp. While this speech impediment is quite obvious (and debilitating) in conversation, it does not affect him while he is singing. Tim is forced to sing his everyday conversations in order to avoid constant humiliation. He hopes to someday return to his wolf kind. Tim Keen (violin/drums/bass/synth/backing vocals) is a long way from home. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Tim, despite being only 19, has 14 years of classical training in as many instruments as you can name. As a young violinist and percussionist, he has played solo, in bands, and in orchestras on stages all over Australia. As well as his extensive solo work, which is influenced by Dirty Three, Sufjan Stevens and Radiohead, he has composed and performed scores for plays ranging in style from Shakespeare to postmodernism. As hard as it may be to believe, he was not cool in high school. He was recently described by two separate blogs as "from New Zealand". Influenced equally by the quirky, overdriven folk of Elephant 6 bands, the violin stylings of the Dirty Three, the gripping lyricism of Destroyer and Jeff Mangum, combined with a penchant for sing-alongs, catchy melodies, and evocative vocals, The Crown Vandals do folk like no-one else.
