Reignite your passion for ministry.Do you feel like you spend more time being a professional “fixer” than a spiritual leader? Are you struggling to rekindle the joy in your ministry? Do you feel called to “do things differently”, but are not sure what that means? Do you desire to step into your power, claim your strengths, and stop apologizing for having something world-changing to say? You went into ministry because of your passion for God and the world, but you’ve seen the dark underbelly of the church and now are not sure you have the stomach for it. Yet, if you leave, you know it will never change. You have been called for exactly this moment. Just as the church is undergoing a great shift, so are you - it’s time to become the leader you were born to be. Sara Shisler Goff went from considering leaving the priesthood to co-creating her dream ministry not only once, but twice (so far). In The Art of Feminine Leadership, you will learn tools for: Letting go of your impulse to “be nice” and “do it right” by following your instincts and truthAccepting all parts of yourself and embodying a different way of leadingNavigating unhealthy power dynamics and transforming patriarchal systemsGiving yourself fully to the parts of your ministry that excite you and letting go of the restThe Art of Feminine Spiritual Leadership is like Brené Brown’s The Daring Way meets Barbara Brown Taylor’s Leaving Church. “I thought it most important that a large-scale operation should take place this summer, and military opinion seemed unanimous that until an operation on that scale was undertaken, no responsible general would take the responsibility of planning the main invasion.” - Prime Minister Winston Churchill   The invasion across the Channel came in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944. That day, forever known as D-Day, the Allies commenced Operation Overlord by staging the largest and most complex amphibious invasion in human history. The complex operation would require tightly coordinated naval and air bombardment, paratroopers, and even inflatable tanks that would be able to fire on fortifications from the coastline, all while landing over 150,000 men across nearly 70 miles of French beaches. Given the incredibly complex plan, it’s no surprise that General Eisenhower had already written a letter apologizing for the failure of the invasion, which he carried in his coat pocket throughout the day.   D-Day would turn out to be a remarkable success, but it wasn’t the first time the Allies tried to land in France after the Nazi conquest of Western Europe. On the 19th of August in 1942, Allied troops launched a raid on the port of Dieppe in German-occupied France, but this attack, code-named Operation Jubilee, was a disaster. Of the 6,000 ground troops deployed, two-thirds were killed, captured, or wounded, and among the raid's objectives, only one could have been considered a success. Britain proved it was committed to a campaign to drive the Nazis out of Western Europe, but making that one point came at a huge cost in lives, most of them Canadian.  ungekürzt. Language: English. In July 1995, San Jose Mercury-News reporter Gary Webb found the Big One - the blockbuster story every journalist secretly dreams about - without even looking for it. A simple phone call concerning an unexceptional pending drug trial turned into a massive conspiracy involving the Nicaraguan Contra rebels, L.A. and Bay Area crack cocaine dealers, and the Central Intelligence Agency. For several years during the 1980s, Webb discovered, Contra elements shuttled thousands of tons of cocaine into the United States, with the profits going toward the funding of Contra rebels attempting a counterrevolution in their Nicaraguan homeland. Even more chilling, Webb quickly realized, was that the massive drug-dealing operation had the implicit approval - and occasional outright support - of the CIA, the very organization entrusted to prevent illegal drugs from being brought into the United States. Within the this audiobook version of Dark Alliance, Webb produces a massive amount of evidence that suggests that such a scenario did take place, and more disturbing evidence that the powers that be that allowed such an alliance are still determined to ruthlessly guard their secrets. Webb's research is impeccable - names, dates, places, and dollar amounts gather and mount with every page, eventually building a towering wall of evidence in support of his theories. After the original series of articles ran in the Mercury-News in late 1996, both Webb and his paper were so severely criticized by political commentators, government officials, and other members of the press that his own newspaper decided it best not to stand behind the series, in effect apologizing for the assertions and disavowing his work. Webb quit the paper in disgust in November 1997. This audiobook serves as both a complex memoir of the time of the Contras and an indictment of the current state of America's press; Dark Alliance is as necessary and valuable as it is horrifyin ungekürzt. What if pursuing your ambition was actually good for you and your family? In this captivating and radical look at work-life balance, Lara Bazelon reframes our understanding of working women, arguing that prioritizing your career benefits mothers, kids, and society at large. In this singular cultural moment, mothers have unparalleled opportunities to succeed at work while continuing to face the same societal impediments that held back our mothers and grandmothers. We still encounter entrenched gender bias in the workplace and are expected to shoulder the lion's share of labor and burdens at home while being made to feel as if we're never doing enough. All the while we're told that the perfect work-life balance is possible, if only we try hard enough to achieve it. It's time to change the conversation-about work, life, and "balance." Work and life are inextricably, intimately intertwined. We need to celebrate what we do give our children-even and especially in moments of imbalance-rather than apologizing for what we don't. In this way, we can model for our children how we use our talents to help others and raise awareness about the issues closest to our hearts. We can embrace the personal fulfillment and financial independence that pursuing meaningful work can bring as a way of showing our children how to live happy, purpose-driven lives. Bazelon argues not only that we can but that we should. Being ambitious at work and being a good mother to our children are not at odds-these qualities mutually reinforce each other. Backed up by research and filled with personal stories from Bazelon's life, as well as that of her mother and the many other women she interviewed across the cultural and financial spectrum, Ambitious Like a Mother is an anthem, a beacon for all to recognize and celebrate the pioneering women who reject the false idols of the Selfless Mother and Work-Life Balance, and a call to embrace your own ambitions and model your multiplicities for your children.

Detective Flood is back, and this time he’s looking into the remarkable (and recent) success of Chuckie Sheedz at the poker table. In a private game, thousands change hands, and one of those high rollers want’s him to make sure there’s nothing funny about the card game. The stakes are high (sorry about that) and Flood’s going to make sure nobody gets a raw deal (sorry about that one, too.) Go all in (we better stop apologizing now) with the brilliant sleuth as he uncovers the secrets of the high rollers. This short story has mature content including violence and mature language. Adults should use discretion when deciding if it is appropriate for children in their care. Here is a preview:“You trying to say something?” Now we had a real scowl. “Then say it.”“I’m not saying. I’m thinking.”Sheedz’s square body relaxed in his chair. He reached for his coffee. “You just keep it that way.”Getting nowhere, I imagined I needed a consult. I had seen Sheedz, wife, and three kids leaving the Salton First Congregationalist Sunday service. I found Reverend Little at his desk in the rectory. I admired the man for facing the task of all today’s religious - fighting like Custer against the circling tribes of Godless cynics and social engineers. We’d shared frank conversations about all of that. I knew I could ask him for a character reference for Chuckie Sheedz. He took off his wire-rimmed reading glasses and tried to straighten his eternally drooping bow tie. “Do people still say salt of the earth,” he asked.“You just did,” I said.He started in with enthusiasm. When he was through I had a picture of a rock solid family man with an unassailable business reputation - impeccably honest with just a soupcon of arrogance to make him human. Lately he had been donating generously to the church. Poker profits for sure, I thought. When the reverend said goodbye, it was to a baffled man. ungekürzt. Language: English.
