Your presence is requested at romantic Twill Castle for the wedding of Miss Clio Whitmore and... and...? After eight years of waiting for Piers Brandon, the wandering Marquess of Granville, to set a wedding date, Clio Whitmore has had enough. She's inherited a castle, scraped together some pride, and made plans to break her engagement. Not if Rafe Brandon can help it. A ruthless prizefighter and notorious rake, Rafe is determined that Clio will marry his brother - even if he has to plan the dratted wedding himself. So how does a hardened fighter cure a reluctant bride's cold feet? He starts with flowers. Ladies can't have too many flowers. Or harps. Or cakes. He lets her know she'll make a beautiful, desirable bride - and tries not to picture her as his. He doesn't kiss her. If he kisses her, he definitely doesn't kiss her again. When all else fails, he puts her in a stunning gown and vows not to be nearby when the gown comes off. And no matter what, he doesn't fall in disastrous, hopeless love with the one woman he can never call his own. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Carmen Rose. The Art of Antiquing: All You Need to Know to Collect , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 49min
Learn how to collect antiques like a pro “I love when things are scraped, beaten, and chipped. Those qualities take me back in time and I never tire at looking at them.” -Michelle Pate In today's world, everything that's old can be described as antiques and generally speaking, that's quite true. A product is considered to be an antique if it is over 100 years old or is rare enough to have some value. In other words, these are old items that are in limited supply. An antique is something collectible. It may be a piece of antique furniture that you want to collect to enhance the look of a room, or a piece of antique pottery to decorate a corner cupboard, or some antique books, an antique camera and photographs, antique jewelry, antique money, an antique car, antique clocks, or antique watches that you want to hand down to your grandchildren but the items must be rare enough to be considered an antique. The others are just secondhand goods junk. Learn the hidden secrets of the art of collecting antiques the right and best ways. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jason Burkhead. The Poetry of Kissing , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 62min
The Poetry of Kissing. In many ways the title says it all. Kissing is poetry. The kiss is perhaps the most loving and intimate moment there is. It is amongst our most soothing and treasured memories. And perhaps also our most erotic. This volume is not about the kiss of a mother to her child’s scraped knee, or the father to his baby’s head as he settles down to sleep. No, when the poets here talk of the kiss, they describe the longing and desire, the want and hunger to be part of something that so connects them to another that it can transcend all manner of reason and decorum. That first kiss can be something so anticipated that it is almost electric. A thousand volt charge of tension and pleasure. It is also addictive. Who has not wanted to kiss on? Who has not kissed some part of a lover that shrugs off convention in the taming of desire? Who has not kissed, or been kissed by surprise, in wonderment or even on a street corner in the squalling rain. The kiss takes us where our dreams want to go. This collection of poems is read for you from the lips of Ghizela Rowe and Tim Graham. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Ghizela Rowe, Tim Graham. Starbird , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 54min
I remember like it was yest'day the day I hooked up with Graken, I say to the hick sittin' next to me at the scraped-up excuse for a bar they call the Come-On Inn, "and I'd be sure glad to tell you about it if you'd set there a spell and mebbe spot me a shot or three of whatever you're drinkin'." In the seedy world of cockfighting, blade-enhanced winners slash their way to temporary victory while the losers end up in barrels to be fried and eaten. Nate's usual hard luck changes when "Graken" comes along. Graken is a strange creature who thrives on the fighting and never, ever loses. Now Nate and his new partner Jerry travel the cockfight circuit with the unbeatable beast, happy to let Graken show them the good times. But good times always have to end, and... Graken's gotta eat. Can they stay ahead of their reputation and also keep the ravenous Graken satisfied? Are they willing to do what it takes? And... who's really in charge? First published in the anthology The Midnighters Club, "Starbird" is a hick-noir/SF/Damon Runyon mash-up that's definitely not PC and is intended only for adults. ungekürzt. Language: English. A story of extreme valour.Johnson Beharry was born in 1979 in Grenada as one of eight children, living in a two-bedroom hut, surviving on meagre meals of beans and rice, and walking barefoot, three miles to school. In 1999 he scraped together the airfare for England and joined the Prince of Wales' Royal Regiment. He was cited on this occasion for "valour of the highest order".While back on duty on 11 June 2004, a rocket-propelled grenade hit Beharry's vehicle, incapacitating his commander and injuring several of the crew. Despite his very serious head injuries, Beharry took control of his vehicle and drove it out of the ambush area before losing consciousness. Dreaming of Babylon: A Private Eye Novel 1942 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 209min
It is early 1942. You are in San Francisco, and you need a private eye. Sam Spade is rumored to be in Istanbul. The Continental Op has been drafted and is a sergeant in the Aleutians. Philip Marlowe is up at Little Fawn Lake investigating the disappearance of Mrs. Derace Kingsley. Lew Archer is in the army. Who's left? Nobody but C. Card. You haven't heard of C. Card? That's all right. Nobody has. When you hire C. Card, the hero of Richard Brautigan's eighth novel, you have scraped the bottom of the private-eye barrel. But you won't be bored. No, indeed. Because when C. Card finds some bullets for his gun, you will be in for some fast, funny, slam-bang private eye adventures. Unless, of course, C. Card starts dreaming of Babylon. If C. Card starts dreaming of Babylon, all bets are off. Not since Trout Fishing in America has Brautigan so successfully combined his wild sense of humor with the incredible poetic imagination he is rightfully famous for around the world. The adventures of seedy, not-too-bright C. Card, as he carefully wends his way between fantasy and reality, Babylon and San Francisco, are a delight to both the mind and the heart. ungekürzt. The Hundred Days, Hörbuch, Digital, 172min
Nineteenth novel in the Aubrey-Maturin series: a classic naval adventure, crammed with incident, superbly plotted and utterly gripping. With the Napoleonic wars looking all but over, Jack Aubrey was already on his way across the Atlantic to try his fortunes under the flag of the young Chilean republic when Napoleon escaped from Elba. Hurriedly appointed to command a squadron flying the broad pennant of a Commodore, Jack was made flag officer in all but name, to operate within and without the Mediterranean on a number of difficult and dangerous missions in an atmosphere of confused political allegiances and with whatever ships could be scraped together at a moment’s notice. Conspiracy in the Adriatic, in the Berber and Arab lands of the southern shore of the Mediterranean, night actions, fierce pursuits and the natural wonders of a still colonised North Africa all exert their pull on Jack, now ageing – wheezing indeed as he hauls himself aloft – and his old friend Stephen Maturin in this the nineteenth novel in a series that has, like the service it depicts, carried all before it. The latest Aubrey-Maturin novel brings alive the sights and sounds of North Africa as well as the great naval battles in the days immediately following Napoleon’s escape from Elba. Language: English.
