  Ein weiterer hoch interessanter Saint-Éstèphe in einer noch interessanteren Preisklasse! Unter der Regie von J. M. Cazes wird der Cru Bourgeois von Jahr zu Jahr immer besser. Da stört auch ein vergleichsweise schwieriges Jahr nicht! James Suckling: 92/100 Punkte "The density for the vintage is impressive with dark-berry and cherry character. Medium to full body, velvety tannins and a fresh and bright finish. Linear and driven."  Wine Spectator 88-91/100 Punkte "Open-knit, with a core of plum and cherry fruit carried by light cedar, tobacco and warm stone notes. Shows a light smoky echo at the end." Wine Enthusiast 93/100 Punkte  "Barrel Sample. This finely structured wine is balanced with nothing in excess offering attractive acidity and a light touch of tannin. It is fruity, bright and developing quickly. Drink from 2023." Decanter 92/100 Punkte "Ormes has managed another good vintage after a run of them. This is a lovely wine and a buy for me. Succulent, bristling and charming, it has juicy brambled fruit extraction and tension. It doesn't take itself too seriously, just asking to be loved. The fruit spectrum is rich with blueberries and damsons, with integrity and a swirl of vanilla bean oak. Includes 6% Cabernet Franc in the blend. No need to wait too long for this. 45% new oak. Drinking Window 2022 – 2035" Vinous (Neal Martin): 91-93/100 Punkte "The 2017 Les Ormes de Pez was matured in 45% new oak with 13.42% alcohol. None of the vines were touched by frost. Cropped at round 50hl/ha, it has a clean, pure red cherry, blackcurrant and cedar-scented bouquet, more Pauillac in style than Saint-Estèphe. The palate is well balanced with ripe tannin that feel more malleable than previous vintages at this stage, a little saline in the mouth with a silky smooth finish. This will be delicious over the next couple of decades and I suspect it will be more approachable than the 2016.   Finesse, Eleganz, Harmonie sind die drei Stichworte, die wir bei der Verkostung des Branaire Ducru aufgeschrieben haben. Schöne Frucht dunkler Beeren, etwas Kakao und Kräuter im feinen, mineralischen Abgang. Sehr gute Saint-Julien, der schon recht früh höchstes Trinkvergnügen verspricht. (92-93 Punkte) Wine Spectator: 90-93/100 Punkte  "The plum and cherry paste flavors show good energy, with floral lift and sleek graphite accents adding to the sense of range and definition. Well done."  James Suckling: 91/100 Punkte  "This is very tight and focused with a precise depth of blackberry and blueberry fruit. Full body, melted tannins and a fresh and vivid finish. Shows a compacted style."  Wine Enthusiast: 91-93/100 Punkte "Barrel Sample. Crisp fruit and intense acidity are the hallmarks of this bright wine. Its tannins are a backdrop to the nervy fruit character and vein of minerality and refreshing acidity. Drink from 2023." Vinous (Neal Martin): 91-93/100 Punkte "The 2017 Branaire Ducru was picked 13 September until 4 October over a three-week period, cropped at 39.6hl/ha. The alcohol here is 13.2°. The wine is aged in 60% new oak, which is how the sample was made. It has a harmonious bouquet with brambly black fruit, melted tar and tobacco scents, not powerful but precise. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth texture, fine tannin, just a subtle savory note developing and merging nicely with the black fruit, hints of white pepper and cedar towards the poised finish that is quintessential Saint-Julien. There is an essence of drinkability about this Branaire-Ducru and I can imagine this being approachable after three to four years. This is a very fine Branaire-Ducru.Trinkreife: 2021-2040 " Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 88-90/100 Punkte  "The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Branaire-Ducru gives up notes of baked black berries, red cherries and mulberries with touches of potpourri and smoked meats. This is pleasantly multifaceted, with complex notes ranging from charred beef, black olive and asphalt to blackberries and cassis, all underscored by loam, vanilla and cedar. It's hard to imagine the French oak could be the answer. Regardless, the black fruits (berry and currant) hold sway until the finish, when the alcohol does raise its head.
