Alice's Adventures in Wonderland , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 152min
The story of Alice in Wonderland began when the Reverend Charles Dodgson and his friend Robinson Duckworth rowed in a boat up the River Thames with the three Liddell sisters: Lorina (aged 13), Alice (aged 10), and Edith (aged 8). To while away the time during the eight-kilometer journey, Dodgson told the girls a story that, not so coincidentally, featured a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure. The three girls loved it, and Alice Liddell asked Dodgson to write it down for her. He eventually did so and gave Alice the first manuscript of what he called Alice's Adventures Under Ground. Later, he printed a more elaborate copy by hand, illustrated it, and presented it to Alice as a Christmas present. On the advice of a friend, whose children had also loved the story, Dodgson expanded the manuscript and submitted it for publication, under the pseodonym "Lewis Carroll". The initial print run of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland sold out quickly. From the beginning, Alice was a publishing sensation, beloved by children and adults alike. The book has been translated into more than 50 languages and has never been out of print. There have also been many movie versions of the story. The most popular has been the Disney animated movie (1951), but there have also been several live-action films. The best known are the British version made in 1972 and the U.S. version made for TV in 1999. Now you can have this incomparable story read to you or your children. This audio version is a new recording, faithful to Lewis Carroll's book. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Shane Sody. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 388min
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass (1871), written by Lewis Carroll, the pen name for Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Charles Lutwidge Dodson, a professor of mathematics at Magdalen (Maudlin) College, Oxford, originally wrote these charming children's stories for young Alice, the daughter of his friend, Henry George Liddell, the dean of Christ Church. After publication, these children's books rapidly became popular with adults because of the extraordinary mixture of rationalism and fantasy, irony, and absurdity viewed through the looking glass of a child's dreams. These stories possibly reflect the struggles Dodgson, a conservative mathematician, was having in adapting to new scientific concepts that challenged his point of view and seemed absurd and upsetting. Perhaps Dodgson found some way of coping with his challenges through the creation of these "seriously silly" but delightful tales. A new Disney version of Through the Looking Glass directed by James Bobin, produced by Tim Burton, and starring Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter), the late Alan Rickman (voice of the Caterpillar), Stephen Fry (the voice of Cheshire Cat), Mia Wasikowski (Alice), Anne Hathaway (White Queen), and Helena Bonham Carter (Red Queen) will be released during the Summer of 2016. ungekürzt. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (AudioKidz) , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 301min
In 1862 Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a shy Oxford mathematician with a stammer, created a story about a little girl tumbling down a rabbit hole. Thus began the immortal adventures of Alice, perhaps the most popular heroine in English literature.Countless scholars have tried to define the charm of the Alice books - with those wonderfully eccentric characters the Queen of Hearts, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Cheshire Cat, Mock Turtle, the Mad Hatter et al. - by proclaiming that they really comprise a satire on language, a political allegory, a parody of Victorian children’s literature, even a reflection of contemporary ecclesiastical history.Perhaps, as Dodgson might have said, Alice is no more than a dream, a fairy tale about the trials and tribulations of growing up - or down, or all turned round - as seen through the expert eyes of a child. ungekürzt. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 177min
In July 1862, Charles Dodgson (more widely known as Lewis Carroll) rowed up the river Thames with the three young daughters of Henry Liddell (the vice chancellor of Oxford University and dean of Christ Church): Lorina, Alice, and Edith. During the five-mile journey, Dodgson invented a story for the girls about a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure. The Liddell children adored the story, and Alice Liddell asked Dodgson to write it down for her. He began writing the manuscript the following day, and the tale was published three years later. Described on its first publication as "an excellent piece of nonsense", this inspired tale of a young girl's adventures in a strange and magical world has gone on to become one of the most popular books ever written, translated into over 125 languages. On an ordinary summer's afternoon, Alice tumbles down a rabbit hole, and an extraordinary adventure begins. In a strange world filled with even stranger characters, she meets a waistcoated, ever-late rabbit, joins a Mad Hatter's tea party, finds herself growing and shrinking with each thing she eats and drinks, converses with a hookah-smoking caterpillar and a disappearing Cheshire cat, plays croquet with the Queen of Hearts, and almost loses her head! Award-nominated actress Dawn Harvey brings Alice and all of her newfound friends to life, giving each character a distinctive voice and attitude to match his or her very distinctive personality. A tale for both young and old, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a story that you will return to again and again. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Dawn Harvey. The Playful Entrepreneur: How to Adapt and Thrive in Uncertain Times , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 574min
A compelling account of how incorporating play into work can help us overcome the uncertainty and turbulence that surrounds work. How can we learn to deal with uncertainty at work? The answer, as Dodgson and Gann eloquently portray in this pathfinding audiobook, is to learn from the adaptive behaviors of entrepreneurs. Play, the authors show, is a crucial component of this. It encourages exploration, experimentation, and curiosity, while it also challenges established practices and orthodoxies. It facilitates change in people and organizations. Drawing on in-depth interviews with entrepreneurs and innovators, this audiobook explains why we should incorporate play into work, what play looks like, and how to encourage playfulness in individuals and organizations. Dodgson and Gann identify four key behaviors that endorse, encourage, and guide play: grace, craft, fortitude, and ambition, and they provide a blueprint for an alternative way of working that fosters resilience and encourages innovation and growth in difficult times. ungekürzt.
