Understanding Government Contract Law , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 668min
This updated classic offers clear and concise explanations of the basic legal concepts of government contract law for professionals at any stage of their career. In straightforward language for contracting officers, contract administrators, contractors, subcontractors, and others in the procurement field, this new edition has been updated with new cases and regulations. The book breaks down the complex arena of government contract law into its three most basic parts: the contracting parties, the contract itself, and legal challenges. It begins by examining key aspects of the contracting officer’s job and provides guidance for navigating its different and often conflicting demands. The government contractor’s responsibilities and challenges are also outlined. Government contracts come in a lot more varieties than the typical commercial contract, and they also tend to be long and confusing. The second part of the book introduces the different types of legal agreements the government uses to buy the goods and services it needs - and addresses the challenges of writing a perfectly clear contract and guidelines for interpreting an ambiguous one. The book concludes with an overview of the government contract litigation process. This is an essential text for students preparing to do the work of government contracts, an indispensable guide for those new to the work, and a valuable reference for contracting personnel who seek solutions to specific issues they face in their day-to-day work. ungekürzt. The Invisible Soldiers: How America Outsourced Our Security , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 520min
The urgent truth about the privatization of America’s national security that exposes where this industry came from, how it operates, where it's heading - and why we should be concerned. Thirty years ago there were no private military and security companies (PMSCs); there were only mercenaries. Now the PMSCs are a bona-fide industry, an indispensable part of American foreign and military policy. PMSCs assist US forces in combat operations and replace them after the military withdraws from combat zones; they guard our embassies; they play key roles in US counterterrorism strategies; and Homeland Security depends on them. Their services include maritime security, police training, drone operations, cyber security, and intelligence analysis (as Edward Snowden has famously revealed). Even the United Nations employs them. When did this happen? The turning point came when the US found itself in a prolonged war with Iraq, but without adequate forces. So the Bush Administration turned to the PMSCs to fill the gap. Private contractors and subcontractors eventually exceeded the traditional troops. The industry has never scaled back. Ann Hagedorn profiles the members of Congress who recognize the dangers of dependence on PMSCs, but have been unable to limit them or even determine their true scope. She takes us to the exclusive club in London where the PMSCs were created, and she reveals the key figure in the evolution of the industry. She introduces us to a US Army general who studies new developments, such as PMSCs’ drone operations, and worries about PMSCs potentially fighting American troops. The Invisible Soldiers will inspire a national dialogue about a little-known international industry on which our security rests. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Laural Merlington. How to Start Your Own Bookkeeping Business: And Be Successful , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 235min
How to set up, create and start your own bookkeeping business from scratch. And be successful. This audiobook is by UK author Lisa Newton who started her own bookkeeping business for £150 in 2004. She used £100 from her overdraft and got £50 'investment' from her mum - and made it work. It is an action-packed, tip-filled, no-nonsense approach to how to start, what to do, things to look out for, pitfalls to avoid and its guidance will help you to avoid the expensive, painful time-consuming mistakes which most freelance independent bookkeepers make. There are plenty of horror stories to keep you on your toes and plenty of useful content to help you to make that transition from full time employee to full time business owner. Amongst other things this audiobook covers:- getting started- products, price, place, promotion- dealing with clients, suppliers, subcontractors- practical exercises for you to try- and a whole lot more. This isn't theoretical or written by some lecturer. This is written by someone who has been there, done it and franchised the bookkeeping business. And won the Bookkeeping Franchisor of the Year (BKN award) in 2012 AND 2013. What you'll soon realise (for those of you thinking of starting this kind of business), is that there are a lot of HATERS out there... and the minute you start to become successful - they'll want to find a way to tear you down. But it doesn't matter...it’s actually part of the fun and games which this audiobook also covers. Be flattered when people make an attempt to sabotage your efforts (be it a bad review or to try and get information out of your team) to 'find out how you're doing it'...it’s all happened to the author, and it is to be expected when you're causing a ripple, and doing something that works.... PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Lisa Newton.
